Gudauri - is the youngest and most promising ski resort in the Caucasus. Unique natural terrain provides great opportunities for the backcountry skiing. Here are a few lifts, but many options for skiing. Main pistes are prepared with ratracks, but in parallel with the pistes, there are wide wild fields, that make the local slopes a paradise for freeriders. Round the resort there are a lot of the off-piste down- hills for backcountry and heliskiing. Here is very popular to get to the top of the mountain by the helicopter, with the help of which one can get to the closest slopes and distant peaks, including a luxurious snow fields of Cross Pass. Currently, the resort is actively developing, annually there emerge new private mini-hotels and cottages, and new pistes. Gudauri ski packages start unusually early, snow cover lasts from November to May, and reaches 2 meters thick on the slopes.
The lower piste station is located at an altitude of 1990m and the upper at 3007m. For today, there work five lifts of the chair rope way Doppelmayr. The first triple chirlift is 1010 m long (illuminated at night), the second - four - chairlift is 2310 m long, the third - triple chairlift is 1060 m long, that can take you to the top of the mountain (3007 m), the fourth - three and four chairlift (1104 m), the fifth chairlift,1300 m, picks up on neighboring vertex of Sadzele. The longest down-hill is 7 km long, vertical drop - 1000m. Eight pistes of different difficulty levels (blue, red, black), are well prepared. Total length of the prepared pistes is 16 km. For the professionals, there are the pistes of slalom, giant slalom, super giant and downhill skiing. All of the pistes are FIS-certified. All is equipped with the Austrian, the latest equipment. Wide open slopes are the good opportunities for backcountry skiing and snowboarding. All of the pistes are above the tree line. Because of the wide opportunities for the backcountry skiing, many skiiers prefer mountain skiing in Gudauri, rather than in some Alpine resorts. Here work instructors, children's ski school. There is also an equipment rental.
Excursions: in the radious of 25-30 km you can enjoy the beauty of the Cross range (2395 m), visit historical and cultural place - Gergeti Trinity Church on the slopes of the mountain Kazbek (5048 м), visit the Truso Gorge and go through the Darial Gorge to the russian border.
