Tbilisi - is the capital of Georgia, the largest city, located in the heart of the Caucasus. This is one of the oldest cities in the world, built in the 5th century AD by Vakhtang Gorgasali (King of Kartli) and which became the capital in six century of our era . Present Tbilisi is an important industrial, social and cultural center of the Caucasus.
 
Tbilisi - is a city with a rich history. During its existence, the city was destroyed and restores 40 times. Tbilisi was attacked by the Byzantines with the Khazars, Arabs, Seljuk Turks, Khorezm. Through Georgia 8 times passed Tamerlane and his troops. Tiflis was destroyed by Jahan Khan, head of Tabriz and Iranians.
The capital of Georgia is unique. It is located on the several mountain hills, on which "creep" the old blocks. Tbilisi - is a beautiful river Kura with its picturesque rocky shores, that flows across the whole city.
 
"Old Town" - is the historic center of Tbilisi, that is located at the root of Mtatsminda (Holy Mount) mountain. Almost all of the buildings of the Old Town are historical and cultural sites, this part of the city is round - the - clock full of life, here walk alone or in groups tourists, meet lovers near the Clock Tower. This amuzing Tower appeared here recently, built by the Puppet Theatre director Rezo Gabriadze. Here artists exhibit their paintings, artisans offer numerous souvenirs. Basically there are 2-3-storey houses, built of brick and stone, and of particular Tbilisi architecture, distinguished by narrow streets, galleries and carved wooden balconies.

Tbilisi is one of the rare places in the world, where can peacefully exist in the Old Town orthodox church, catholic cathedra, synagogue and mosque.

Mtatsmynda - St. Mountain or the mountain of David, named in honor of St.. of St. David's, who lived as a hermit in a cave on the slopes.On the wide mountain plateau, at the top of the mountain, are laced television tower, which amazes with its beauty, especially at night (276 m), a children's entertainment park and attractions the little church of St. David and the Pantheon of outstanding figures of Georgia. On the holy mountainas well is located the oldest fortress of Tbilisi - Narikala Fortress. Tbilisi residents consider it as soul and heart of the city.

Rustaveli Avenue - is an avenue in central Tbilisi named after the medieval Georgian poet, Shota Rustaveli.Construction began in the prospectus of the nineteenth century by the vicegerency of the Russian Prince Vorontsov. Length of the avenue about 1.5 km. Avenue starts with Rusraveli Square and ends with Liberty Square - the central area of ​​the modern city. In the center of the square stands a statue of St. Geogre.

The new Peace Bridge - a modern, with very unusual shape, the glass bridge over the Kura River in the heart of the old city, that looks great especially at night , thanks to the unique lighting system, it connects the old town with the park of animated fountains and offers a beautiful view of the building of the Presidential Palace with a huge glass dome.

Famous sulfur baths - are the interesting sights of the Old Town. A distinctive feature of Tbilisi sulfur baths is that they are below the ground level, and on the surface only the dome is visible. For local residents sulfur baths have always been a place of meeting, communication, exchange of news. No wonder, that in old times, matchmakers made the bride-show of the brides.
It was always a favorite place of recreation of royal and princely families. Alexander Pushkin enthusiastically commented Tbilisi sulfuric baths: "Never in my life I  have found neither in Russia, nor in Turkey, nothing luxurious than baths of Tiflis."

Today Tbilisi has 11 universitites, 20 theaters, and more than 60 museums.

National Museum of Georgia - is a unique store of items of Caucasian culture. Pearl of museum "Gold Pool" - - exhibits from excavations of the barrow Trialeti (II century BC). Gold Cup - bejeweled and with geometrical patterns became famous worldwide. In the museum collection is jewelry  of V, IV centuries BC.

Art Museum of Georgia - is the richest exposure with priceless masterpieces of medieval of VIII-XIII cc., coinage of gold and cloisonné enamel of X-XII centuries. The most valuable exhibit is the golden cross with the inscription of Queen Tamara, decorated with emeralds, rubies and pearls. No less valuable - is Gold Cup Bagrat III - 999 BC. Oe. Exhibit of the museum is the oldest icon of Georgia - Anchiskhati  miraculous icon of the Saviour of the VI. (Anchiskhati). The museum contains works of Chinese, Japanese, Egyptian, Iranian, Indian, Turkish art, paintings by European masters, including the Russian artists: Ilya Repin, Surikov, Serov, Ivan Aivazovsky, Vasnetsov and rich collection of paintings of the great Georgian artist Niko Pirosmani.
 
The open-air museum of Georgian folk architecture has more than a hundred houses, exhibits, taken from different ethnic regions of Georgia. Inside the houses one can see the features of life of some Georgian peoples.
 
Turtle Lake - a favorite  place of rest of Tbilisi residents and tourists. So named because of the abundance of turtles, once lived in this area. Mountain streams fall into the lake, so the water is always clear in it. Around the lake is located clean pebble beach with summer cozy cafes and bars.
