Alpinism in Georgia «Ascent of Kazbek mountain »
Tbilisi – Ananuri – Gudauri – Kazbegi – Betlemi hut – Betlemi church – climbing Kazbek mountain – Mtskheta – Tbilisi (7 days, 6 nights)
Day 1: Tbilisi
Arrival to Tbilisi. Meeting with the representatives of the agency. Hotel accommodation. Free time. Overnight.
Day 2: Tbilisi – Ananuri – Gudauri – Kazbegi
Breakfast. In the morning, departure from Tbilisi in the direction of Stepantsminda (Kazbegi).On the way to it, we will overlook the picturesque Ananuri fortress (XVI c.), located above Aragvi river, and also the amazing beauty of Zhinvali reservoir. In passing the ski resort Gudauri (2200 m), the stunning trip along Tergi river, through Cross Pass (2400 m), will bring us to Stepantsminda (Kazbegi).
Overnight in the guest house in Kabegui.
Day 3: Kazbegi – Betlemi hut
Breakfast. Excursion in Kazbegi: church of the Holy Gergeti Trinity Church (2170 m above the sea level). When the weather is fair, the stunning view on the mountain Kazbeg (5147 m), one of the highest tops of Georgia, opens.
Climbing to the Betlemi hut. Betlemi Hut is the highest (3,653 m) located building in Georgia. Its history takes origin as far back as in 20-ies of the last century, when it was decided to build a shelter for first Georgian alpinists, who started mastering the new routes.In 1933 the wooden building was constructed at the altitude of 3,653 meters. In 1941, at the same place, construction of firm stone building was accomplished, serving as a mountain climbers' shelter and combining the function of meteorological station for a certain period. In 1998 the shelter was named Betlemi Hut. Annually it hosts thousands of Georgian and foreign tourists, who stay there for a night on the route to Mkinvartsveri Peak (mount Kazbek).

Day 4: Betlemi hut – Betlemi church
Breakfast. Acclimatization – trekkiing to Betlemi church (1-1,5 hours). Preparation for the climbing. 4000 meters up the side of Kazbek is a cave that is said to have been the prison of Prometheus, known as Amirani in Georgia. Now called Betlemi (Bethlehem) , the cave later served as a hermitage for orthodox monks, and was said to contain many sacred relics, including Abraham’s tent and Christ’s manger. Rest. Overnight.
Day 5: Betlemi hut – climbing Kazbek mountain
Breakfast. In the morning climbing to the Eastern peak (5033 m). The classical route to the Eastern peak (category 2A) goes around Small Kazbek through a saddle between two peaks. One of the most difficult area is about 100 meters with a slope of 45 degrees, there you will definitely need ice axes. Ascent and descent takes 8-12 hours. Recreation. Return to the Bethlehem hut. Dinner. Overnight.
Day 6: Betlemi hut – Mtskheta – Tbilisi
Breakfast. Return to Kazbegui. Departure to Tbilisi.
On the way to it visit t he ancient capital of Georgia Mtskheta – the town-museum, included into the UNESCO World Heritage Site List. Visit Temple-Monastery Jvari (VI c.). On the top of the mountain where the temple is placed opens a fantastic view of the conjunction of two rivers – Kura and Aragvi. The site has a beautiful view of the ancient capital of Georgia – Mtskheta. Visit Svetitskhoveli Cathedral (1010-1029), at the basement of which one of the major Christian relics – Lords Tunic is buried, brought in Georgian by Ellious, Jewish citizen of Mtskheta who witnessed crucifixion. This is the burial place of many Georgian kings too. The pieces of the life-giving pillar is preserved here. Visit Samtavro Monastery, where the blackberry bush grows, flowers and fruits whole year round. St. Nino – the enlightener of IV century – lived and preached nearby. Christianity was adapted as a state religion in 324 on behalf of St. Nino. She was the one who convinced king St. Mirian and queen St. Nana to declare Christianity as a state religion. Wonderworking icon of Iberian Mother of God, wonderworking icon of St. Nino, grave of St. King Mirian and Queen Nana, hallows of St. Abibos Nekreseli, St. Shio Mgvimeli are placed inside.
Arrival to Tbilisi . Excursion in Tbilisi. The capital of Georgia is unique. It is located on the several mountain hills, on which "creep" the old blocks. Tbilisi – is a beautiful river Kura with its picturesque rocky shores, that flows across the whole city. "Old Town" – is the historic center of Tbilisi, that is located at the root of Mtatsminda (Holy Mount) mountain. Almost all of the buildings of the Old Town are historical and cultural sites, this part of the city is round – the – clock full of life, here walk alone or in groups tourists, meet lovers near the Clock Tower. This amuzing Tower appeared here recently, built by the Puppet Theatre director Rezo Gabriadze. Here artists exhibit their paintings, artisans offer numerous souvenirs. Basically here are 2-3 storeyed houses, built of brick and stone, that have a particular Tbilisi architecture, distinguished by narrow streets, galleries and carved wooden balconies.
Tbilisi is one of the rare places in the world, where can peacefully exist in the Old Town orthodox church, catholic cathedra, synagogue and mosque. During the excursion, visit of Metechian Church ( V c.), Narikala fortress ( IV c.), Sioni Cathedral (VI-VII c.), Anchiskhati Basilica of St Mary, the oldest surviving church, Synaxis of Saint Truinity of the temple complex of Tsminda Sameba – the main Cathedral of Georgian Orthodox Church. Walking tour in the city.
Accommodation in the hotel. Overnight.
Day 7: Tbilisi
Breakfast. Free time for souvenirs buying. Transfer to the airport. Return home.
