Tour "Mtskheta and Tbilisi: Two Capitals of One Country"
     Day 1: Borjomi – Tbilisi – Mtskheta (120 km)
The town of Mtskheta. Visit to the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral (1010-1029), in the foundation of which is buried one of the main Christian shrines – the Chiton (Robe) of Jesus Christ, one of the most important sacred artifacts of the New Testament, which after the crucifixion was brought to Mtskheta by Eliroz – one of the witnesses of His death on the cross. It is also the burial place of many Georgian kings. A part of the Life-Giving Pillar is located here as well. Visit to the Samtavro Monastery, where a blackberry bush grows, blooms, and bears fruit all year round. In the 4th century, Saint Nino – the Enlightener and the first preacher of Christianity in Georgia, lived and preached near this bush. The official adoption of Christianity in Georgia in 324 is connected with the name of Saint Nino, with the assistance and participation of Saint King Mirian and Saint Queen Nana. It was Saint Nino who convinced King Mirian and Queen Nana to accept Christianity in Georgia. Inside the church, there is the miraculous icon of the Iveron Mother of God, the miraculous icon of Saint Nino, the graves of the holy King Mirian and Queen Nana, and the relics of St. Abibos of Nekresi and St. Shio of Mgvime. The city of Tbilisi – sightseeing tour of Old Tbilisi (Rike Park, Narikala Fortress, the Bridge of Peace, etc.), and shopping at a mall. «Old Town» – the historical center of Tbilisi, is located at the foot of Mount Mtatsminda (Holy Mountain). Almost all the buildings of the Old Town are historical or cultural monuments; life is bustling here 24/7, tourists stroll individually or in groups, and lovers meet by the Clock Tower – this amusing Tower appeared recently, built by the director of the Marionette Theater, Rezo Gabriadze. Artists exhibit their paintings, and craftsmen offer numerous souvenirs. These are mostly 2-3 story houses made of stone and brick, featuring a distinct Tbilisi architecture characterized by narrow streets, galleries, and carved wooden balconies. Tbilisi is one of the few places in the world where an Orthodox church, a Catholic cathedral, a synagogue, and a mosque peacefully coexist side by side in the Old Town. Return to Borjomi.
