Ancient cave city - Uplistsikhe, is located on the banks of the Kura, 10 km from the town of Gori, carved in volcanic rock ridge of Kvernaki. Uplistsikhe heyday occurred in IX-X centuries. The preserved remains of the "hall receptions of Queen Tamara" amaze with grace of its performance and unrealistic for that time technical execution. It was the temple city of Georgia, the center of paganism prior accepting Christianity by Georgia. Now Uplistsikhe is listed in World Heritage List by UNESCO.
Ateni Zion Temple – is a beautiful architectural sight, located 12 km from the city of Gori. Built at the beginning of VII century. Ateni Zion is a cross-domed church, covered with unique frescoes, it is a replica of the iconic Jvari Monastery in Mtskheta. Walls of the temple are covered with magnificent paintings, dating from the XI century. In the temple complex are preserved up to our times: the Tsminda Giorgi church (XI century), Orbeliani domed church (VIII-IX century), a Atenistsihe medieval fortress. In the lift up the hill to the castle is located the Cathedral.
