The Republic of Georgia is situated in the south-east Europe and occupies the central and western part of Transcaucasia. It is bordered on the north by Russia, on the east by Azerbaijan, on the south by Turkey and Armenia. In the west, it is washed by the Black Sea. The territory of Georgia is mostly mountainous, and more than a third part of it is covered by the dense forest. In the north of the border with Russia on the main ridge of the Caucasus Mountains there is the highest point of the country – Mountain Shkhara (5068 m). Small Caucasian ridge passes along the south of Georgia, and the highest points of it do not exceed 3,000 meters.
