Official language
The only official language in Georgia is Georgian. English is used for the communication with foreigners. Majority of population understand and speak Russian.
Archeologically is claimed that first Georgian inscription dates III c. AD but Georgian alphabet is older (about I-II c. BC). Georgian alphabet is unique among the 14 known alphabet groups in the world. Currently, it consists of 33 letters. The population of Georgian speaker is 4 million people in Georgia and several thousand outside the territory of Georgia, mostly in Russia, USA and Turkey. Georgians perceive Georgian alphabet system as a unique national treasure and an integral part of national identity.
